We've Settled in the Sunshine - Mike & Janet - December 2021

2021 is almost over….

Two of the folks that live here in Country Roads are
Brock and Sherry Quast…..

They entertain us frequently…..  great voices.

Country Roads celebrates the holidays with a decorated golf cart parade.

So much fun !

Our little Christmas Tree

Our little snowmen…….  Who won’t see any snow.

We arrived in Portland the 16th for Maria’s masters graduation.

Congratulations Maria!!

A few days later, we drove up to Sunriver for some serious snow time!

A beautiful day up at Mt. bachelor skiing (Grandma and Papa stayed in the lodge

like a couple of ski bunnies)

What fun !!

Fun Christmastime !!

A quick trip back to Vancouver….. a little snow at Brandon and Karen’s

But inside…. It’s all toasty and warm.

Little Enzo warming himself by the fire  !

We had a wonderful Christmas at Brandon and Karen’s.

Karen’s family all came for a great Christmas dinner and it was fun seeing all of them.

Somehow, I caught a cold while in the cold weather…… how did that happen?
Our flight back to Phoenix was cancelled due to the weather.

The next day, we made it home……

Great holidays with the kids….. Nice to be back home.

We've Settled in the Sunshine / Mike & Janet / November 2021

Everyone is returning to Country Roads……

The nights are so very beautiful

We had a huge Veterans Day parade

We have a large amount of live music….
Most all of it is good!

A mild off roading trip……so I went.
My favorite part was the wild donkey’s  I love them !

A beautiful dry waterfall

A quiet, peaceful canyon

This off roading trip took us thru a California State Park
right on the Colorado river

We spent Thanksgiving with Pat & Rollie and
dessert with Pat, Rollie & Gloria (cousin) and her fella, Len.

We took a convertible ride up to a nearby
RV park and found these big horned sheep
just casually grazing on the golf course.

What a site…….. !!!

We've Settled in the Sunshine Mike & Janet/ October 2021

Fall is here …… love this time of year.

A brief little rain to cool things down…

We took “Tiny” over to Casa Grande for 5 days….
great RV park.

While in Casa Grande, we went to the “Domes”

In the 70’s, the domes were built by an electronics company
to be their business site.

The business climate changed and all that is left are the “domes”
Kind of spooky.

Also while in Casa Grande, we went to the Neon Sign
Outdoor Museum…..  Small but a fun place

We decided to spruce up “Tiny”
We bought some fake tile (the peal and stick type)

I was so pleased at how great it turned out, we……

also put it in "Tiny's" bathroom too!
I love it !

Happy Hour music…..  Great!
Brock Quast – one of our favorite singers

We took a trip up to Prescott Arizona and stopped
at Alamo Lake on the way back home

Alamo Lake was beautiful….
And right out in the desert.

Now that fall is in the air, my porch plants
are starting to look great!

My favorite room in the house.
I love to sit out on the porch and
watch the world go by  😊

A great birthday month
and top it off with
Trick or Treating !!

We've Settled in the Sunshine / Mike & Janet / September 2021

Our summer continues……

The Saguaro Cactus are beautiful in Arizona

A week long camping trip took us to Benson
Arizona just east of Tucson.
From Benson, we drove up to Tombstone.
A really neat old Cowboy town.

A reenactment of the “Shoot Out at the OK Corral” was
very interesting!  Great show.

“Boot Hill” another interesting spot.

Camping with Pat and Rollie in Benson.

The days were beautiful and much cooler than Yuma.

The nights were gorgeous!

One day we drove over to Bisbee and toured the Queen Copper Mine.
Really interesting.  A huge defunct copper mine.

Just a short distance away was the Kartchner Caverns State Park.
Fantastic!!
We toured the caverns.  So very beautiful!

Fantastic tour!!

A week after returning from camping in
Benson, We took a Mustang convertible trip up to Show Low.
Show Low is a great little town up in the mountains at 6,500 feet
and is very popular with Yuma residents to get out of the summer heat.
We weren’t as impressed with Show Low as we expected.

We traveled over on Interstate 40 and stopped for the second night in
Steligman…..  a really cute town on Route 66.
We stayed at a darling motel and ate at the Roadkill Café…Yum!

A good trip to show us more of Arizona!

October has creeped up on us.
People are returning to Yuma and the winter fun is about to start!!

We've Settled in the Sunshine - Mike & Janet - August 2021

What a Screwy Month!?!

We started out August 1st headed for Oregon in our Mustang convertible

(We called it our topless trip)  It was slated to be a month long trip to Oregon, visit for a while, then down the Oregon coast and on down the California coast, then back to Yuma!  We were making the trip with Mike’s sister and her husband!

Great plan!

Once we hit Oregon, we stopped at The Lake of the Woods for a visit with the Hogue’s.
We stayed with Rick and Judy and also enjoyed a visit with Neil and Leslie too.

Lots of smoke in southern Oregon…  the fires rage on
So sad….

 More highway smoke….

Near Klamath Falls…

Colby is heading off to college.
Such an exciting time in his life.

Went to a Portland Timbers Soccer game with Marc & Maria.
What fun…..just like the old days.

Great game…  The timbers won!!

She says she won’t, but I know Anna is going to miss Ben.
Ben heads off to Montana State.

Sweet 16…. Anna will be heading off to college in just a few years.

Brandon & Karen’s dogs LOVE their neighbors!
(They know where the treats come from)

The St. John’s bridge….. a Portland iconic landmark.

AND THEN GUESS WHAT HIT THE FAN!?!

Mike’s sister called us to say she had come down with Covid-19.
We had spent some time with her just a few days before, so we thought
we should test ourselves.

I was negative but Mike tested positive.
Now what should we do?
We were just ½ way into our trip.

We went to Mike’s other sister’s.

They were exposed the same time as us.
They were both negative.

We had no choice…….

We headed south to Yuma.

Mike was not sick, just a cough.  He was vaccinated.
I remained negative.

Two very long days of driving and we were home in Yuma.

Several Covid tests and two weeks later, Mike’s sister who tested positive in Oregon,
and who was very, very sick, finally tested negative.  Hooray!

Mike & I have been pretty much quarantined here at home.
But it has been 17 days, so he is not contagious any more.

How crazy?

The humming birds are loving having us home!

Things are quiet here in Yuma….not too many people here.

Life is good!

Oregon - Mike & Janet - July 2025

What a great month! What a perfect couple…. Camryn and Carter are engaged !! We are so very happy for them both…. Plans are for an Aug...
